Biography
Everyone needs help in life now and then. I work collaboratively with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, to identify and solve the difficulties they are facing. I am direct, compassionate, and use my sense of humor in helping people to make changes in their life. In our work together, we can get you back on track to accomplishing your goals. I have experience and success in treating: anxiety (general, panic, OCD, social anxiety), depression, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, relationship problems, trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, drug and/or alcohol abuse, self-harming, and academic problems. I use evidence based, effective approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. My work with my clients is collaborative, and I used feedback informed treatment to address my clients needs, and maintain a strong working relationship that also takes into account my client's individual culture, their larger cultural context, and awareness of privilege, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, race, religion, and other factors to see my clients experience and be conscious of my own culturally informed perspective.
My specialties fall into three categories: 1) Teenagers & Children - I have worked with teenagers and children for 23 years. 2) Couples - I am one of a small number of EFT Certified Supervisor and Couples Therapists in the Bay Area. 3) Individual Adults - 50% of my therapy practice is treating individual adults for ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, work problems, and other issues. Since I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, and do psychological testing, I can work from a variety of modalities and take into account many aspects that other therapists cannot. which is why many of my clients come to me after not finding success with one or many other clinicians.
In addition to my practice in San Francisco, Marin, and via Zoom throughout California, I am the director of the Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy where I teach and run a group practice of over 17 clinicians in six different Bay Area counties, and I am the director of the nonprofit Bay Area Community Counseling where I teach and supervise interns who are able to provide services to those in financial need. I am the past president of the Association of Family Therapists of Northern California, the co-founder of Bay Area Therapists Specializing in Adolescents, and the host of the podcast, Therapy On the Cutting Edge, a podcast for clinicians interested in staying up to date on innovative, integrative, and effective treatments. Many folks refer to me and even I'm full and/or everyone in my practice is full, they know that my staff will reach out to our thousands of contacts in the clinical community to find someone who can see them now, rather than just being given another list of referrals who are also full and being passed along.
