    Videos – Master’s Work

AAMFT Master | Master’s Work | Ackerman Institute | AAMFT Learning Edge | AFTNC Events | Other Videos

The Work of Luigi Boscolo, M.D.: “A Couple of Friends”
The work of the Milan Systemic therapy is demonstrated in this training tape. A couple with the presenting complaint of not enough sex, money or time receive a consult which yields much new information from questions asked by Dr. Boscolo. The systemic questioning process as an intervention is demonstrated in this interview. (This is the best demonstration of the Milan Approach in the library. The Master Series Ceccin/Boscolo tape was returned as it was not a very good tape. BR) This tape is an enactment of an actual interview. (50 min)

The Work of Harry Goolishian, Ph.D.: “Conversation with a Blended Family: A Burning Question”
Following a family crisis, a ‘new age” family constellation presents for consultation after the six-year-old son sets fire to the family house. Narratives and graphics highlight some of the methods and techniques used in this therapy approach. (This tape is the only video in which a therapist is seen interviewing the children by themselves. My “Child Therapy” students like the tape and found Goolishian’s style accessible for them as beginning therapists. (BR.) (60 min.)

The Work of David Epston: “Recommitment to a Marriage”
This tape beautifully illustrates Epston’s approach as he consults to a young family in transition. In addition to reflection the position of therapy being politically active, their conversations evoke feelings, beliefs and historical foundations for an empowering experience as they provide accounts of their emerging story. (54 minutes)

Michael White: “The Best of Friends: A Live Interview”
White interviews a heterosexual couple in a tape that includes his commentary and a reflecting team. (105 min)

Michael White: “Reauthoring a Life in the Face of Lost Dreams: A Live Interview”
White interviews the mother of two developmentally disabled children (5 and 7 year old boys). She is an MFCC intern, recently separated from her husband; her mother participates in part of the interview. The tape includes his commentary and a reflecting team. (95 min)
